Welcome to KVK Banadipora (Krishi Vigyan Kendra Bandipora) sanctioned in year 2005 KVK Bandipora is located in Potushahi, District Bandipora, Jammu and Kashmir. District Bandipora is one of the 22 Districts in J&K State. Bandipora Town is the Administrative Head Quarter of the District. The District is bounded by Kupwara District in West, Baramulla District in the South & Kargil, Srinagar & Ganderbal in the East. The District has a population of 392232 souls (2011 census).
There are three Tehsils, five C.D.Blocks, 114 Panchayats & 189 villages, District has a literacy rate of 57.87%.
The major crops of the District are Paddy (9486 ha), Maize (4927 ha), Pulses (1671 ha) & Vegetables (892 ha). The sown area is 20308ha & the cropping intensity is 118%.
The main fruit crop of the District is Apple (5605 ha), Pear (115 ha). The main live stock of the District is cattle (1,13343), Sheep (184800), Goat (55000) Bufalo (1285).
Weat Maize Rotation
Introduction:-
• In district Bandipora maize is being cultivated over an area of 4630 ha under rain-fed condition with low input use, use of land races and high plant density
• Maize was a staple food of tribal farmers whose main crop is maize.
• Being a rain fed crop grown on sloppy lands under the foothills of forests it is mostly being damaged by bear during the months of August-September.
Integrated Farming
An experienced entrepreneur belonging to famous Whatapora village of District Bandipora, has 1.5 acres of cultivated land with adequate supply of irrigation and used to cultivate different varieties of vegetables, paddy & pulses besides livestock. He has strong acumen and zeal to give the farming a modernised shape. The farmer is interested in integrated farming and took vegetable production as main venture . He solely depends for more than 75% of the inputs of his farm and only 25% are being purchased from the market.
